When we found out that Lacey had cancer, our first thought was that we could not really afford it, but she had to be taken care of, she has been a large part of our family for almost a decade. We applied to the Magic Bullet Fund for help and, to our great relief, they accepted our Lacey into their assistance program. Lacey underwent surgery on her leg, first. The tumor had to be removed. Dr, Joe Hendricks at Briarwood Veterinary Hospital said it would be a very difficult tumor to excise, but he hoped to remove most of it. Afterward, he was extremely pleased -- the tumor was more cooperative than he had expected and Dr. Joe had been able to remove the entire tumor! The next step is radiation treatment - a very expensive endeavor, but necessary to make sure the cancer does not come back. Lacey's oncologist, Dr. Joyce Obradovich and Animal Cancer and Imaging Center, said that Lacey is an excellent candidate for this treatment. She will have X treatments over X weeks. My husband Dave and I paid for the surgery and maxed out our credit cards. The Magic Bullet Fund had us apply for assistance from Care Credit and that limit has been met now to pay for the creation of a radiation protocol (plan) and half of the first week of treatments. Lacey Needs Help
Lacy is our wonderful yellow Labrador retriever. She is 9 years old. Lacy has a heart of gold is a puppy still at heart. She loves to play ball or frisbee and just an all around good girl. Her best friend is Shelby a chow mix that was a stray and we took in to our family. Lacy developed a limp in her back rear leg. We took her to the vets and she has been diagnosed with a tumor. The vet said that it is only in her leg and she is in need of surgery and possibly follow up with radiation therapy. The surgery and radiation are costly and more than we can afford at this time - between $5,000 and $8,000 dollars! We are animal lovers and I have been involved with animal rescue and fostered many homeless pets but now that our own pet is in need of help we are not able to take care of her. Due to our circumstances, we have decided to reach out to the kind hearts and good nature of people, in hopes of collecting donations towards Lacy's care.
